Imagine how striking it is to then enter the church and be completely overwhelmed with walls that vibrate with gold. More specifically, it is an example of the complex, intricate churrigueresque style, which originated in Spain and was transformed in the Spanish Americas. While most churches from New Spain as elsewhere were built in stages over long periods of time such as the Cathedral of Mexico City , this church was built in a short period of time and so fully embodies this style. After nearly a month of hanging out in Mexico City, we fancied a weekend away from the hectic streets of the capital. It was Christmas; the weather was cool and bright, and I fancied doing something special. Having spotted some pictures online of a Pueblo Magico called Taxco in Guerrero earlier that month, I proposed a visit. Taxco Pueblo Magico is my recommendation for anyone wanting a little weekend away from Mexico City. To get up here, it is a bit of a trek — we walked and regretted it!
