The Jayco name has been synonymous with memorable family camping holidays since , when the company first began building camper trailers. The boys and girls at Jayco have done their homework to deliver a visually striking package both inside and out. The body is finished in a high-gloss gel-coat complemented by contrasting coloured trims, decals and attractive alloy wheels. The canvas is colour matched, constructed from quality Australian-made Bradmill canvas and double stitched for durability. The foundations for the trailer are a hot-dipped galvanised chassis and a drawbar of x50x3mm — fitting for a camper of this design.

Wilbur Wilde is a name familiar to most of us and he was listing the benefits of the Jayco Swan as part of his promotional role with Jayco. And he is right; the Jayco Swan is a deceptively roomy camper. With the bed ends folded out the interior rivals the space in many full sized caravans, but it packs down easily into a compact trailer. It was her first major trip driving solo and her introduction to long expanses of dirt roads. Initially admitting some nervousness about hitting the corrugations, by the time we reached Birdsville Sue was settled right in and was looking forward to the trip home, which included more dirt along the Darling between Bourke and Wilcannia. Conditions for our travels were made for the Swan. Jayco make no pretentions about their Outback range being all-conquering offroad campers. Indeed they specifically rule out four wheel drive only tracks and deep creek crossings. Our Swan is the second largest from a range of seven campers all with an Outback option that adds strength and extra ground clearance. Sue reported the camper was hardly noticeable behind the powerful Isuzu on the highway although, like for most people, she found towing through the busy Melbourne motorway traffic was at first a little nerve wracking. I can go along with that. Because a camper was the first project of the fledgling Jayco company back in , it stands to reason that the 40 intervening years have taught them a thing or two about how to build a successful product. Part of the success is their very competitive pricing, but also includes a 29 strong dealership across the country , 3-year roadside assistance that reduces costs associated with breakdowns, comprehensive month warranty and high resale value. With a staff of over and a progressive research and development team, many of the components and manufacturing processes going into Jayco products have been established in-house. For example their Endurance camper chassis is a mix of x50mm hollow tube and C-section steel that has been engineered for strength while maintaining minimum weight.
An 82L poly water tank sits behind the rear axle shrouded by light-duty shielding to the front and base only.
While today Jayco is perhaps best known for caravans, the company has an incredible track record and heritage cred when it comes to camper trailers. Since it has built literally thousands of them— and has an enviable market share, based upon meeting critical price points in the market. More on that later. Amongst the Jayco fleet are seven models of camper trailers, six of which display the archetypical Jayco trademark bedding arrangement which has them sliding out the ends and supported on props. At the upper end of this selection is the Swan, which weighs in at kg tare in its standard on-road format and kg in offroad trim.
The Expanda is a true caravan, it borrows some of its best features from camper trailer lore, blending the best of both worlds in a way that benefits families. And, for those not quite ready to upscale to a full-size van, the Expanda is also available as a pop-top with a Tare weight as low as kg. Flexibility is an important factor in all family decisions and Jayco has attended to this by making the Expanda available in 10 different layouts five pop-tops and five caravans. We got our hands on an Expanda Outback So fresh, in fact, that she was hot off the factory floor and about to be loaded onto a truck to the dealership when we arrived to collect her! Weighing in at kg Tare with an ATM just over kg, the But it has all the other benefits of the classic Expanda — just in a larger package.

As Aussie buyers weigh up the pros and cons of new or used campers in their search for the perfect one for them, the Swift Outback OB from Jayco would have to be on the list for many. What makes the Swift OB such a great camper is that it has such a small footprint compared with many softfloor and even rear- and forward-folding campers. As long as you can find a piece of fairly level ground just over 4m long, you can set the Swift OB up for the night — or longer — in around five minutes with a little practice. This makes it a great traveller, as overnight stops can be quick and much easier than with a much more space-dependent fold-out camper. Erecting and packing up remains the breeze it was all those years ago on the first Jayco camper trailers, albeit with a few refinements.

Ive always found winter best time for boats and RV stuff. The boys and girls at Jayco have done their homework to deliver a visually striking package both inside and out. I know we could rig up an external 12v hot water shower easily enough and also sort out a portable solar set up, battery etc, slide out external BBQ cooker etc. Air con - can totally understand why this would be a huge benefit, especially in the tropics or indeed down south where it is cold when heating is needed. Powered by SMF 2. The disappointing thing is that for an offroad camper Jayco still only provides for a standard ball coupling, with its limited articulation, a number of wires and hoses under the floor which are dangerously exposed to snagging on sticks, and no stone protection other than that jerry can holder at the front and a trip along somewhere like the Birdsville track would make a mess of that nice curved front bodywork. The roof, as with all the Jayco campers, is a pop top, cranked up via their patented roof lifter system. With the passing of legendary performer Tina Turner Birdsville Big Red Bash attendees and organisers are rallying to ensure a new world record is set … [Read More Placing the large double beds outside the body of the camper leaves the interior as an uncluttered living space and gives the camper a roomy open feel. It's these little bits of information shared that are so important to know first hand, especially from people that actually own them.

The unit also provides a trickle charge to the optional A battery when connected to V. The mattresses are inner spring for good comfort, and as an option you can convert the dinette to another double bed. They may well have been water tight Sorry to stick my nose into a Jayco thread, but as a Goldstream owner i thought i would say that in almost 5 years of ownership we have never wanted for air con. Inside walls have a ply sheet finished in a stain resistant covering. The only other problem is that we don't get out enough - now if only I could "road train" the boat and the camper, then I'd be set. The roof, as with all the Jayco campers, is a pop top, cranked up via their patented roof lifter system. Fit, finish and build quality was generally of a high standard, with only a few blemishes. Have never needed an air conditioning unit. News: New member requests; if you do not receive a confirmation email first check your spam filter, or if not within 7 days, email admin myswag. Middle of the day? The newly redesigned door top drops down quickly and easily into place. Might just be forced into waiting until after school holidays
