The Space Year continues and spreads out to another theme: Creator. But that's not the only thing this set contributes to it. This set not only is a tribute to the history of mankind's step into space but also a nod to Space in LEGO form. When I started doing a bit of research it really got interesting. The Submodel of a Space dog isn't just a cute model but remembrance to and recognition of the first living being in space. Some of you might have heard of Laika , that got into space in , which was a big step for science. So I like to look at this model with this point of view, too. Also the second submodel, the Vic Viper Spaceship, has a bit sad notch to it. But also official LEGO sets have featured this kind of spaceship, e. The shown background might sound a bit depressing, but I don't think it is. I see those submodels more as tributes or homage which remind us to acknowledge these contributions. The main model is on that track, too. The Astronaut shows a NASA space suit and gear as I learned a Manned Maneuvering Unit and with the pose on the stand clearly depicts one of the most iconic photographs in space history: Astronaut McCandless hovering freely in space in front of Earth.
