This year I will be taking on Jessica bate in March to raise vital funds for life-changing mental health treatment for veterans.

Dr Bate cares for children with all kinds of cancers, but she has a particular interest in Wilms kidney tumours and bone and soft tissue sarcomas. Dr Bate been researching infections in children with cancer since , and has published extensively on this topic. She's also been awarded a National Institute of Health Research grant for a clinical trial investigating ways to prevent chickenpox in children with cancer. Dr Bate was awarded a Children's Cancer and Leukaemia Group research grant to evaluate the impact of national advisory panels for childhood cancer. She was awarded the Johann Visser Award for Outstanding Contribution in in recognition of her work during the pandemic. You can read about some of Dr Bate's publications here.

She is of Native Brazilian descent through her great grandmother. Andrade grew up playing soccer and futsal , aspiring to become a professional soccer player. During school, Andrade started training judo and shortly afterward, in , jiu-jitsu. Her teammates coined the nickname bate estaca piledriver , a term used in Brazil for body slams also known as Daki age , [9] [10] after one of her first amateur BJJ competitions, when Andrade was caught in an armlock , she panicked and performed the illegal move on her opponent by lifting her and then slamming her head directly into the mat. Then I have lunch, rest for a little bit and go back to the gym. From 3pm to pm I have one training session, and then another one from 6pm to 7pm. We work on different things every day, and all the girls from our gym are there with me and we do our best helping each other at some moments and then beating each other as if it was fight day to be prepared for any situation. When and why did you start training for fighting? I used to do judo in school, and when I was finishing high school I was invited to start training jiu-jitsu.
