Kamacuras in Godzilla: Kamacuras 1. Kamacuras is a gigantic praying mantis, characterized by its large sickle-shaped claws and round orange eyes. Kamacuras is quite frail for a kaiju, kamacuras.

Kamacuras is very noticeably different from the previous Showa era incarnation. This time, it is thicker and shorter, sporting a blueish green all over its body and red over its scythes and spikes. The "FinalKama" has four insect wings which give it flight, and instead of having whiskers it has antennae. The body is clearly segmented and has spikes on its back. This design also dropped the long mosquito-like mouth in favor of a much shorter ant-like one. Kamacuras retains its 6 limbs, with the front ones being scythes and the two pairs of rear ones sustaining its weight. Kamacuras was portrayed using a combination of puppets and computer generated imagery.

Despite having a lot of credibility in the genre with the 's Gamera films, director Shusuke Kaneko still had to go through a few hurdles before Toho would hand him the reigns of the Godzilla series. Even though Kaneko had already created several films with the company in the previous decade, including My Soul is Slashed and Haunted School 3 , he was put to one more assignment before getting to create a project around Toho's most famous creation. His first concept was a feature involving the insect monster Kamacuras from Son of Godzilla Kaneko was interested in using advanced special effects techniques, including lots of CGI, in creating the mantis kaiju.
