In a very short time, the Club became an unqualified success and membership steadily increased until there was well over on the membership list. It must also be noted that the club has never denied access to those who could not or would not pay the small membership fee. Those who could not pay were frequently given the opportunity to work off the fee in some manner while an effort was made to convince those who chose not to pay that the Club provided a valuable service and their support was much needed. The Club then put in a small kitchen, which was staffed by volunteers, and sold coffee and some goodies to the members. The Club also started holding dances on Saturday nights. These were very well attended, so much so that they had more than one visit from the Fire Marshall who had concerns about overcrowding. As the Club began to make money, it began to offer paid positions such as cooks, cleaners, and janitors to persons coming into the program who needed such help.

The owner of the Blue Grotto nightclub in downtown Kamloops would like to see a more regional approach taken after public health officials announced that night clubs would have to close. Pup Johnston says he was contacting staff about bringing them back and reaching out to bands to come and play at the venue and everyone was excited to get back at it. It was bad. Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry says health officials have worked with the industry to try and make things safe, but she says it was becoming too hard to contact trace. So we started with by refinishing all the floors…. So we bought plexiglass and some wooden fence panel and we started cutting and putting things together. It took us probably a week with my son and a lot of my staff and everyone kind of pitched in and helped out. We set up 12 individual cubicles for groups of six to fit in. Absolutely no risk whatsoever of coming into contact with someone else unless you leave that bubble.

The Kamloops Amateur Radio Club is a non-profit organization incorporated under the Society Act and has been in operation since For almost 40 years our organization has built and maintained a network of Amateur Radio mountain top repeaters which enable voice and digital communications between a number of interior communities. A major factor in the establishment of our system has been to have in place a wide ranging Amateur Radio Repeater and Broadband IP Network in the event of a provincial or local emergency.
