The Kawasaki ZSX is a clever, considered and very worthwhile update of an already excellent machine. Simply put, Kawasaki has made an already great bike even classier. Conceived to fit between the naked Z and the track-focused ZXR, the ZSX is an almost perfect mongrel — delivering much of the excitement and character of the Z, performance of the ZXR yet all in a more comfortable, upright and practical package. The revisions to the mirrors, seat, panniers and even induction noise all mount up to make this a vastly improved machine. They have accomplished their goal. The motor feels fresher and the addition of traction control and power modes brings a missing level of sophistication to an already excellent experience as well as peace of mind in the wet. But the feedback is actually impressive, more so from the rear. The ZSX is in its element when the surface was occasionally rough, its supple suspension dealing with the jolts while it gracefully flowed through the mainly open bends at a brisk pace with unwavering poise.
