The Islanders are hoping to start play in time for the season, but must clear a number of hurdles, including securing the necessary ice time. Earlier this year, the City of Kenora announced the Islanders would not be provided ice timesafter concerns were raised by community groups, arena users and city kenora islanders.

Keenan Marks stopped 20 of 21 shots for his 16th win. Beau Helmeczi opened the scoring at of the first, and Jordan tacked on a pair at and for a lead. Connor Larrett notched his 5th of the campaign at of the second on a Thunder Bay powerplay. Aaron Bertschinger broke Keenan Marks shutout bid at of the second on an Islander powerplay. Bertschinger leads the Islanders with 14 goals. Jordan got his hat trick at , giving his 23 on the season, one off the team lead. Trahiotis got his first goal at with Thunder Bay up a man to make it Kenora took 34 of the 50 penalty minutes assessed. The second period was particularly physical with 13 infractions whistled down.

In accepting a Junior A head coaching position, Genaille, a member of Opaskwayak Cree Nation in Manitoba, will move about nine hours away from his current home, and will leave the majority of his family members behind. Genaille, who is living in the Manitoba city of Thompson, was named the head coach of the Kenora Islanders on June Genaille, who is married and has five children ranging in age from nine to 15, said his entire family will not initially be able to move with him to Kenora. But his year-old son, who was an affiliated player with an Under AAA squad this past season, will move with him to Kenora , in part, to improve his chances of bettering his own hockey pursuits. Genaille said his family frequently travels about seven hours from their current home to the Manitoba capital of Winnipeg for various reasons.
