Two rounds of thunderstorms are possible, and both could produce severe weather. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect until 1 pm Thursday for the potential for large hail. Rain chances will increase as low-pressure spins up over south Texas. The track of that low will determine where the first round of thunderstorms could produce severe weather. Widely scattered showers and a few rumbling thunderstorms are possible for the morning drive, but the first round of storms really blossoms in the late morning hours. This round of storms will develop near an area of low pressure. With the low tracking along or near the coast, most heavy thunderstorms will stay near the coast and might completely miss Houston to the south. These storms could rotate and produce severe weather, including quarter-size hail, wind gusts to 60 mph, and even a brief tornado. Widely scattered showers are possible through the afternoon, but the second round of thunderstorms won't pass through Southeast Texas until Thursday night. These storms will fire up over the Hill Country in the evening, and because the air aloft will be extremely cold, these could produce larger hail up to the size of golf balls.
