When it comes to Scotch whisky, few distilleries have a reputation as stellar as Lagavulin. From its origins in , this Islay single malt has long been revered for its smoky and peaty flavours. I already tasted several batches. What a shame, gone is the big peat and everything that makes Lagavulin great. I had high expectations upon opening the bottle, but the first few days both the nose and palate was tremendously salty. My current bottle of Lagavulin 16 is just so damned boring that I would never want to repeat it. Lagavulin 16 year old gives you an intriguing expedition with strong dryness and smoke mixed with good flavors and just enough complexity, not too much though. That being said, expensive whisky rarely lives up to my expectations, and it's not awful. This is a burly, assertive single malt wasting no time with small talk: It gets right down to business.
