The shop was under a clothing store off of West 4th. Back then a lot of the tattoo shops were still underground since tattooing in New York only became legal five or six years prior to that. It was a fun adventure for both of us that eventually became my future. In her early twenties, Liana completed a 6-month apprenticeship and gave her first tattoo—a Harry Potter lightning bolt on an old friend. The well-known M Street shop was established in —the first tattoo parlor to open in DC since It just so happened that they were looking for an artist. For an extremely busy shop, this place runs incredibly smoothly.

What city do you live in now? What brought you here? How did you get started in the field of cosmetic tattooing? Prior to starting this career, 11 years ago I was in the the Israeli army. I decided when leaving that I wanted to become medical tattoo artist to help others. For that I needed to go through the path of medical aesthetics. To save money for my schooling and business I worked after school doing nails as well as with my my partner as a ballroom dancer. Until I was just practicing nails, and eventually owned my own nail salon.

It just so happened that they were looking for an artist.

Crista is a kind, warm-hearted artist that is easy to talk to and has hands of gold that create beautiful tattoos. I've had so many compliments on my tattoos by Crista, and I look forward to hopefully being tattooed by her again in the future! She did a consultation prior to the appointment so we were able to discuss the design intent. She also diligently checked and cross referenced the script as the tattoo involved our ancient writing. During the appointment, she made sure we were comfortable and relaxed. She kept checking in on us and how we were feeling or if we needed a break. Easy to get a hold of, very professional, and work was amazing!!
