By Chris Roper. The Logitech Driving Force Pro has been available in stores for some time now, but we've put off reviewing the wheel until now for one very important reason: Gran Turismo 4. The Driving Force Pro was originally intended to launch day and date with the game, just like the GT Force and GT3 did, but unfortunately Gran Turismo 4 was delayed for some time so Logitech finally decided to just go ahead and the wheel. Luckily for all GT fans the game is finally upon us which means that the Driving Force Pro can finally be paired with its soul mate. The wheel's major selling point is its degrees of rotation, with force feedback all the way around, for supported games. It's other major upgrade lies in its force feedback strength, which not only makes cars feel heavier and more powerful but also allows for greater subtlety. The pedals are basically the same, for better or for worse.

The difference between careening into a hay bale or executing the perfect turn could be as simple as switching from your normal gamepad to the Logitech Driving Force. The ubiquitous square, X, triangle, circle, and directional pad present themselves, although you won't necessarily want to use the wheel for nondriving games. The buttons are convenient for navigating menus and using special functions on cars, such as nitro boosts and hand-brake maneuvers. Depending on how you drive, your hand might brush against some of these buttons, which could cause you to accidentally push them. Fortunately, the wheel has numerous comfortable positions to allow for more careful hand placement. Logitech's implementation of the R1, R2, L1, L2, Start, and Select buttons differ from the normal buttons, coming instead in a low-profile, silver finish.
