Coffee is just coffee, right? They started out purchasing and completely remodeling their Airstream Safari Land Yacht with the goal to launch their mobile trailer while they finished repairing their brick-and-mortar location at Center Street. Everything started out great, but their first hurdle came in the form of launching their business amid Hurricane Dorian in September Then, they dealt with COVID shutdowns, receiving basically no governmental assistance for a brand-new business. To top it off, Sydney broke her arm from a skateboarding accident that landed her in the hospital, and they ended up losing half their staff. Originally built in the s, the building was two separate locations, one serving as a post office servicing Jupiter and the other as a butcher shop and grocery store, among other identities. In a hearing Wednesday before Magistrate Leonard Rubin, town officials largely won out. Rubin directed property owner Vincent Pezzino to move The Lokomotive's trailer off Old Dixie and into a nearby driveway within two weeks and away from the Center Street property permanently by mid-November. If those terms aren't met, Pezzino can be fined. Planning and Zoning Director John Sickler said, however, they can't use the trailer to sell coffee along Old Dixie or in the driveway at Center Street. The hearing was a frustrating conclusion to a difficult saga with the town, JP Pezzino said. He and Jacobson opened the business last September, initially offering free coffee and accepting donations for Hurricane Dorian relief in the Bahamas. It quickly became a hip place to grab a drink. The Lokomotive still plans to open a brick-and-mortar location after construction concludes at Center Street in the next few months. The elder Pezzino told Rubin he envisions the coffee shop operating alongside some sort of retail use. He already arranged for a large mural depicting historical Jupiter scenes on the building's east facade. But the trailer has been closed since late July because of the code dispute, JP Pezzino said. If it reopens, JP Pezzino said it will likely be parked outside of Jupiter.
