After a chilly and changeable few days, milder and drier conditions will develop through the coming week. A few showers will still be possible here and there, though, and eastern coastal areas could become colder again as winds shift from south-easterlies to easterlies. Similar temperatures should linger into the following week, but southern UK could become wetter and windier at times. The second half of March has a high level of uncertainty at the moment but there are chances of some colder air moving in with temperatures falling at least to seasonal values. Following a rather cold and unsettled weekend there will be a drier trend developing through the coming week, with temperatures lifting above average after Monday. A frontal system from the south-west will slowly spread more rain across the country There could be some sleet or snow over northern high ground, but it should also introduce a milder air mass. Towards mid-month conditions will probably start to turn more unsettled again, especially across the south, where rain and showers could become frequent and heavy at times. Northern areas are more likely to have further decent spells of fine, dry weather.

After mid-March, uncertainty grows but we are most likely to see high pressure to the north-west with low pressure generally more to the south. This kind of set-up should mean wetter and windier conditions overall in southern regions compared with the northern UK. From midweek onwards, bands of rain are expected to move in from the southwest.
