Forget about calling Macera's Italian Restaurant a hidden gem. After 24 years, the restaurant is out of the cozy environs below ground and no longer sharing a parking lot with the Mardi Gras Night Club. The move was not owner David Macera's idea. He was happy where he was. But it wasn't his decision. The restaurant's home for 24 years is now gone, demolished, along with the Mardi Gras, to make way for a new commercial development. With all the bad luck one can have, the new Macera's opened just as the state's restaurants were shutting down in March due to the COVID pandemic. It was takeout only until fall. When I visited Macera's, they were just getting set to open for indoor dining.

This was my first time there. The food was delicious. We ordered the ravioli, a pizza, pasta with meatballs, and it was all superb. The service was excellent.
