Thirteen-year-old twin sisters Sam and Emma Stanton are opposites growing up in Evansville. Sam is a star soccer player and a tomboy ; however, she wants to attract boys. Emma is a popular girly girl who enjoys fashion and make-up, but she wants to be better at sports. Their dad Jerry, one of the Soccer coaches, is pressured by his wife Denise to pick Emma for the Hurricanes co-ed team. But Sam is not thrilled to join a team which hasn't won in years and Emma finds it difficult to please her dad so the girls come up with a scheme to switch places in soccer so each can be on the team they prefer.

The movie revolves around two twin sisters, Sam and Emma Stanton, who have completely different personalities and interests. Sam is a talented soccer player, while Emma is more interested in cheerleading. Their father is a former soccer player and is very supportive of Sam's soccer aspirations, attending all of her practices and games. Meanwhile, their mother is more interested in Emma's cheerleading, and devotes most of her time to helping her with her routines. The movie takes place during the summer, when both girls are attending a soccer camp. Sam is excited about the opportunity to train with the best soccer players in the country, while Emma is not too thrilled about the camp but decides to give it a try anyway. At the camp, the girls meet a group of boys from California who are also attending the soccer camp. Sam is immediately smitten with the team's star player, but Emma is not interested in any of the boys at first.
