It's no secret that Maven Black-Briar may be the most hated character in Skyrimmaven skyrim, but although the Dragonborn can't kill her, there are still ways for the player to get back at her.

She is able to influence the outcome of any situation with money or by exploiting the fear that her allies will retaliate. According to Maul , her ties to the Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood essentially make her untouchable, and that if anyone is told to do something for her, they had better listen and do exactly what she says, or else. The matriarch of the Black-Briar family, Maven is virtually unapproachable and elitist. She holds the actual pulse of Riften in her crushing grip and is not above using unscrupulous methods to ensure things go her way. Anyone who crosses her typically ends up dead or in prison, even members of her own family, such as Sibbi Black-Briar. Maven is the mother of Hemming , Ingun , and Sibbi.

Maven Black-Briar is the matriarch of the Black-Briar family, and unofficially controls most of Riften. Maul is her right-hand man and enforces her will in the city. She has strong ties with both the Thieves Guild and the Dark Brotherhood , as well as being a personal friend of Jarl Laila Law-Giver , despite their political differences. She has her hands in every shady business in Riften, is involved in multiple quests, and is so influential that she will take over as Jarl if the Imperial Legion conquer the Rift. Maven wears fine clothes with fine boots along with a leveled necklace and ring. She carries a belted tunic , her personal key , the Black-Briar Manor key , a leveled dagger of the best possible quality, a potion , and a selection of upper-class items and gold. Maven lives in Black-Briar Manor , right next to Mistveil Keep , and she sleeps there every night between midnight and 8am, in her large second-floor bedroom. After a two-hour breakfast, her busy day begins with a visit to one of her many businesses, the Black-Briar Meadery , to check up on brewmaster Indaryn and the other employees. At 4pm she browses the marketplace in the town center until 6pm when she returns home for a two-hour dinner. Her entire evening is spent at the Bee and Barb, until she finally heads back to her luxurious bedroom at midnight. There are only three exceptions to this routine: during the quest Dampened Spirits when she will stay hidden on the second floor of the Bee and Barb and hand out orders to you, during Diplomatic Immunity when she will be one of the guests at the Thalmor Embassy , and during the Thieves Guild quest Under New Management when she will show up in the Cistern of the Ragged Flagon and oversee your initiation. If she is appointed jarl, Maven will move into Mistveil Keep with Hemming and Maul and follow a different routine befitting her new station. She sleeps in the jarl's chambers between midnight and 8am then heads downstairs and breakfasts with the rest of her court for two hours. She then takes the throne and stays there until her bedtime, interrupted only by two-hour meals at 1pm and 7pm. If she is jarl, she will not turn up at the Thalmor Embassy during Diplomatic Immunity, although she will still turn up at the Ragged Flagon during Under New Management.

As the owner of Black-Briar Meadery, Maven and her family are extremely wealthy as they managed to grow their business all across Skyrim. Because of this, she has a powerful hold on Riften, her hometown, and makes sure to use it to her advantage. Underneath the booming Skyrim mead business, however, are shady practices and suspicious partnerships. The Black-Briar Meadery is supposedly the business that put Riften on the map. In the events of The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim , Maven is still in charge of the business and makes sure that everything goes smoothly. In fact, she has so much influence over the people of Riften that people are afraid to cross her. Keerava of the Bee and Barb inn, for example, is afraid of serving any other type of mead in her establishment. Similarly, Ungrien, who works at the tasting counter of the meadery, is terrified of getting his sales pitch wrong in front of customers as he could end up dead — like the last three people to work his job.
