One of the best parts about buying a physical album if you still do that sort of thing is the album cover art. And if you're a metalhead or crusty punker, the more brutal and bloody it is, the better. After all, metal and punk have never been about bowing down to political correctness or normal standards of decency. In honor of the countless examples of extreme album art that make you look twice, cringe or shake your head in horror and disgust, we now present our picks for the 10 Goriest Album Covers. Feed Us a Fetus by Dayglo Abortions This is the second album by these obnoxious punk rock societal rejects from Canada. Since the early '80s, this band has been shoveling out a thrashy brand of punk that has been freaking out parents and religious leaders for decades. This album, although artistic in nature, depicts late President Ronald Regan and first Lady Nancy Regan together smiling; below them is a roasted, bloody human fetus covered in candy, served on a platter. The Art of Partying by Municipal Waste This is the third full-length album by a band that is celebrated as heroes of the crossover thrash scene. Hailing from Richmond, Va. The Art of Partying is homage to such crossover innovators as DRI, and the Cro Mags, while still maintaining a high level of melody and sense of thrash to please fans of Exodus and Suicidal Tendencies.

It seems too complex and very broad for me.

The title originates from a line of lyrics Fenriz of Darkthrone wrote for the band. Despite being a bootleg, the album is sometimes erroneously listed as one of the band's main albums, mainly due to the notoriety regarding the cover art, which is an image of the late Mayhem vocalist Per "Dead" Ohlin shortly after he committed suicide. The bootleg is a recording of a live show that took place on 28 February in Sarpsborg , Norway. Metalion, an early figure in the scene who helped to organise this show, claimed that there were around people in attendance and the members of Darkthrone and Immortal were present as well. The album is infamous and controversial for bearing a photograph of vocalist Dead Per Yngve Ohlin , shortly after his suicide on 8 April Bullmetal, a penpal of Euronymous and owner of Warmaster Records, was sent a copy of one of the photos Euronymous had taken of Dead's corpse which ended up becoming the cover image.

If you know anything about Mayhem, you'd know how this bootleg album came to exist. But for those who don't know, here's a summary: The band's vocalist Pelle "Dead" Ohlin decided to live up to his name by killing himself with a knife and a shotgun. Euronymous came across his body and then proceeds to buy a disposable camera from a convenient store, returns to the house, and then takes pictures of his body. He later got the photos processed and sent them out to his friends to show off how dark and edgy they were. While most of the photos were destroyed, one somehow managed to survive and eventually became the cover for this album. Whenever I discuss the album to my friends, they'd all say that it was awesome simply for the album cover. However, when I ask them if they even listened to the album, they admit they haven't. I decided to go out my way to buy the CD and listen to it myself to see if there's any musical value in it. While it's definitely not the worst live album Mayhem released I'm looking at you, "Live in Zeitz" , at the same time, it's nothing I would want to get excited about. One of the major drawbacks of this LP is the production.

But what are the most shocking and grossest album covers in metal? What are those covers that, if your parents were to ever see them, they would faint and never let you buy another album? Well, being the horror freaks we are, we decided to put together a list that features the 10 most grim and unsettling metal album covers to have come out of the genre. This whole list could be just Cannibal Corpse album covers, but where is the fun in that? Instead, we went with the one we find to be the most shocking. The album cover is blunt and the detail of human faces submerged in cow fecal matter might get you to hack up your last meal. While this list features an array of grotesque imagery, the album cover for The Dawn of the Black Hearts is by far one of the most tasteless ever. This bootleg Mayhem live album features the photo that the late Euronymous took when band frontman Dead killed himself. Putting it lightly, this cover is nothing short of fucked.
