MO2 was initially started by Tannin, the creator of the original Mod Organizer, to take care of bit games such as Fallout 4. It is now actively maintained by a team of developers, from all backgrounds, and is now able to do much more than Tannin ever envisioned. The installer version is usually preferred for ease of installation. The installer can still be used to create a portable installation of MO2. Starting out with MO2 can be a bit intimidating.

When Mechwarrior 5: Mercenaries was first announced, developers Piranha Games hinted that it was designed to support VR. Unfortunately, upon release, it became pretty clear that no such implementation had been made - the gameplay resembled something that a mech had trodden on. It was as flat as a pancake. Fast forward to this week though and all your mech-based VR dreams have finally come true thanks to KITT, an incredibly talented modder whose VRWarrior mod 'lets you feel just how massive this multi-ton killing machine really is as you stomp your way to victory'. The VRWarrior mod is now available to download from Nexusmods and it plonks you right inside the cockpit of a battle mech to give you the most immersive Mechwarrior experience yet. It's not a complete VR overhaul either, as only the actual mech-based missions support VR. Anytime you're outside the mech, such as when you're in the hangar performing repairs or planning missions, the gameplay reverts to flat mode. All that fiddling is completely worthwhile though because the feeling of sitting in a battlemech cockpit and going toe to metal toe with another mech is just plain awesome.

Mods are a big draw for PC gamers. Steam makes it easy to install and manage mods, and now that same ease-of-use is coming to the Epic Games Store. MechWarrior 5 has a vibrant and active mod community over on Nexus Mods, but those mods required users to have some rudimentary knowledge of game files in order to know where to place those mods. This might just be a quirk of MechWarrior 5 and not something to expect when other Epic games get mod support. There are two mods that are absolute must-haves right now since they fix known bugs that the developer just hasn't gotten around to fixing yet. Without it, a memory leak can cause performance degradation and serious frame rate loss. This is a known bug that Piranha Games intends to fix with an upcoming update, but we don't know when that update will be, so use this for now. The other mod is the Enemy Mech Availability Date Fix , which allows most of MechWarrior 5's mechs to actually appear in-game and not just in the quick-play menu. This is also a known bug that will also be fixed later on.
