Mikasa Ackerman is a member of the Survey Corps and the top ranked member of the th Training Corps.

Mikasa wears a yellow school blazer which has a small blue bow on the collar of her white uniform blouse with a short black skirt. She has medium length black hair with a center bang and large dark eyes. Generally, she wears her red scarf on a daily basis as it is very important to her. Mikasa is very protective of her friends, especially Eren and wants him to fit into a normal high school life. She also can be prone to violence, as seen when she takes down a Titan after it was provoked by Eren; this is shown later when she was open to the idea of having to beat an elderly man in order to see Armin and when she threatened Sasha with bodily harm when she was caught lying.

Mikasa desires to live a calm and peaceful life. Apart from being an extremely loyal and kind friend, Mikasa is a soldier who is feared by many. As the most popular female character from the Attack on Titan franchise, Mikasa Ackerman sure is a one of a kind girl. It is said that Mikasa's mother was Asian. Here, Hizuru's former Shogun clan had descendants down the line who became to be known as Azumabito. Some of the descendants, including the Azumabito, decided to live on Paradis Island. This group of people came to be known as the Asian clan. Her mother never told her about her ancestry because she wanted Mikasa to live an ordinary life. Their intention is never revealed but it is hinted they were either thieves or people who were into human trafficking. However, the manga gives a better explanation. Those men knew the secret identities of Mikasa and her mother. Being the last of their kind, they would have fetched a high price in the black market in the human-trading circles. This is why they wanted to kidnap them.

Isayama based Mikasa on a real person he met before he became a manga artist, keeping the original idea of her being Asian in order to stand out within the Western look-a-like cast.

She is the childhood friend of Eren Yeager and Armin Arlert and is of both Eldian and Asian heritage, her father being an Ackerman and her mother being an Asian related to the Azumabito, a foreign family. The latter makes Mikasa a descendant of the Azumabito clan, who once used to rule Hizuru as Shoguns over a century ago, until the end of the Great Titan War.
