Smoke made his debut in Mortal Kombat II as an unplayable secret character , appearing as a human before making his playable debut in Mortal Kombat 3 as a cyborg. Smoke returned in Mortal Kombat as a playable character, appearing in his human form for the first time in 6 years. In Mortal Kombat X where he is a Revenant and a non-playable character, Tomas renounced the Smoke moniker in favor of calling himself Enenra. In Mortal Kombat 1 , he returns to the title of Smoke. Mortal Kombat 1 sports an impressive roster in which both Sub-Zero and Smoke are part of. In a video uploaded by Hidden Characters , Sub-Zero and Smoke end up facing off in a live action sequence. Editing of the video was handled by D-Piddy. Upon confronting one another, the two begin a match just like how it's done in Mortal Kombat 1. Though there's no intro dialogue, this fight begins with both fighters squaring each other up before Sub-Zero kicks Smoke away. You can really tell that Sub-Zero is the aggressor in this fight as he doesn't appear to be holding back. Still, Smoke is able to use his teleportation to land a few blows on Sub-Zero and escape from desperate situations.
The team at Netherrealm Studios went back to the studio on August 11 for the second Kombat Kast livestream, which provided a closer look at how Smoke, Ashrah, and Geras play in the forthcoming Mortal Kombat 1. NRS is unique among the big fighting-game developers in that it goes out of its way to seriously overhaul many of its characters between installments, with both Smoke and Ashrah being almost entirely reinvented for MK1. MK1 Smoke is about rapid movement around the screen and constant offensive pressure. Smoke can once again teleport around the screen. In later appearances, due to Smoke's cybernetic "upgrades", his body appears to effectively be made out of smoke, or at least his nanomachines emulate the appearance of it.
