A mysterious force knocks the moon from its orbit and sends it hurtling on a collision course toward earth.
The American military decide that the moon, well, they gotta nuke it. KC finds out about this change of course and leaks it to the media, with NASA equating that there are only about three weeks left. They take off in a shuttle with eventually no crew on the ground, and it doesn't feel triumphant so much as the film trying to minimize its cast numbers. The human stories are gratuitous themselves instead of involving us, so telegraphed in the drama of their characters. Even reliable forces like Wilson and Berry cannot sell what little drama the story has.

Here, we might reasonably expect the film to rely somewhat on actual science. By this point in his career, he knows that disaster movie audiences are more interested in seeing things fall apart, so he throws out a few theoretical ideas as little more than formalities. In cavernous, half-empty IMAX theaters, however, you can definitely hear other people laughing at the unintentional comedy of a truly bad movie set in space, which is as close as we can get to saying that you may want to see Moonfall with an audience, should you feel compelled to see this at all. Covid has robbed filmgoers of so many different pleasures, including the opportunity to collectively gaze in wonder when a truly awful, incoherent mess presents itself for our pleasure, and in such oversized portions.
