A missing unmanned aerial vehicle UAV is tracked down after it is compromised during a training exercise killing a marine before it disappears. The NCIS team searches Los Angeles for the lead suspect of a murdered Iraqi businessman, a former Marine who had been hired by a private security firm to protect him. When a body of a marine who had been living a double life as a wealthy bachelor is found, the NCIS team must find a motive.

The NCIS team investigates when a seaman's body is found at the bottom of the sea in his dress whites, with a ceremonial sword. They discover that he was addicted to a Wizards and Warriors style role-playing game. S1 A5 — The Curse. A Navy lieutenant who was reported missing nearly ten years ago has been found by a deer hunter. When the NCIS team arrives at the scene to investigate, they see that his remains have been mummified.

The first season dealt with introducing the characters and their strengths, skills, and weaknesses. A Marine Brian Patrick Wade dies during a nighttime training jump. The culprit seems to be a faulty parachute, but standard investigation reveals that the death might not have been an accident after all. Gibbs begins to believe that the supposed accident that resulted in the Marine's death might actually be murder after all, and he and Tony, along with new recruit Kate Todd, set out to find out who tampered with the dead Marine's faulty parachute and eventually sent him to his death.
