Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered is a tenth anniversary re-release of Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit with all of its previously released updates and downloadable content , as well as visual enhancements and cross-play support. The Switch release is derived from the Criterion Games developed game and the Wii release developed by Exient Entertainment. The career mode in Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered revolves around the increasingly fought over Seacrest County between illegal street racers and the Seacrest County Police Department , with additional events from various downloadable content packs integrated to each career as part of remaster. Players can choose to participate in two separate progression paths; one as a Cop for the SCPD, and the other as a Racer , with each offering different event types, overall goals, and play styles. Completing events will unlock additional events, vehicles, performance tiers, and equipment within a career path. Neither of the career progression paths feature any form of story beyond short career map briefings and occasional vignettes at the beginning of some events to create a tone. Bounty can be earned towards a player's level as a cop or as a racer.

Hot Pursuit is the sixteenth Need for Speed title and was released in November , with digital distribution versions released within December Hot Pursuit ' s gameplay is set in the fictional Seacrest County, which is based on the American states of California , Oregon and Washington [ citation needed ] , in which players can compete in several types of races. Players can compete online except in the Wii version , which includes additional game modes such as Hot Pursuit, Interceptor and Race. The game features a new social interaction system called "Autolog", which is a network that connects friends for head-to-head races and compares player stats for competition. The game also features paid downloadable content in the form of new cars, new race and pursuit events, and new trophies and achievements. Hot Pursuit was well received by critics at E3 and was most notably awarded with " Best Racing Game " from the Game Critics Awards as well as several other media outlets. Hot Pursuit lets players be either a racer or a police driver, and features a full career mode for both roles. The relationship between the cops and racers is described as "a dog chasing down a rabbit"; the police being more powerful while the racers are faster. Each side has several power-ups including calling for roadblocks and radar jamming.
