Netero was at first characterized as an energetic, playful, and at times seemingly absent minded elder. But Netero was slightly insane; he enjoyed challenges and is thrilled by the prospect of a formidable enemy. This strange passion affected the way in which he governed the Hunters Association, frequently testing the physical limits of those attempting to become Hunters. Biscuit Krueger even called Netero a "twisted individual," as he often relished giving Hunters he trusts impossible assignments that would take years to complete. Netero dedicated his life to the martial arts and prayer. He displayed a great deal of pride when it comes to his own abilities and has no respect for the weak. His goal in life was to find a worthy adversary against whom he can fight with his all. Despite his tendency to act as he pleased, Netero was not amoral. He banned expeditions to the Dark Continent as a response to cases of Hunters trying to imitate him and ultimately dying in the process, and in spite of his fondness for challenges, he preferred to avoid fighting both Neferpitou and Meruem,hoping to end the conflict with the fewest casualties. Nonetheless, in certain occasions he prioritized results over sacrifices, as shown when he was willing to let as many as five million people die if that ensured the end of the Chimera Ant kingdom and saving humanity as a whole. Not much is known about Netero's past. He was trained in the martial arts of Shingen-Ryu Kung Fu. Some years later, at the age of 46, he went to train in the mountains.
Since the anime adaptation appears to have opted for a literal netero, this is the version that is reported on this page. During the Chimera Ant arc of the series, Netero displayed the level of his strength to the fans and proved to be quite a challenge for Meruem, the King of Ants. In his prime, Netero is said to have been twice as strong as he was during his old age, meaning he would've been a menace back then and only a few characters would be able to put up a fight against prime Netero. Meruem is the King of the Chimera Ants in the Hunter x Hunter series and the strongest of all the known characters to date.
