The Invincible season 1 finale saw Omni-Man shoot off into space after an epically calamitous brawl with his son, but in the season 2 premiere, the public thinks the conflict ended differently. Invincible season 1 was an emotional roller coaster for the title character, aka Mark Grayson, as he learned his almighty superhero father, Omni-Man, wasn't who he or the world believed him to be. On the surface, Omni-Man was the world's greatest defender and a charming father. However, where Omni-Man was concerned, the world was his playground to roll out his Viltrumite campaign of planetary conquest. When Mark realized the dark truth of Omni-Man's violent Viltrumite crusade , a historic battle ensued, resulting in Invincible being beaten to a pulp and the world's ideal of the great superhero being tarnished. This set up a complex web of interplanetary politics, overarching fears for the end of Earth, and the restoration of the fragile world Omni-Man left behind.

This is Omni-Man Nolan Grayson from the comics. Nolan Grayson was an alien Viltrumite born on their planet Viltrum. His father, Emperor Argall , was the Viltrumites' leader. When he was very young, his father was killed by a turncoat , who no longer believed in the Viltrumites' violent ways. Nolan was too young to remember anything about his father. His true heritage was hidden from records in order to hide him from Viltrumite enemies. The Viltrumites were then organized into the Viltrum Empire , led by Thragg. In his youth, Nolan signed up to conquer planets for the empire, and he was so successful that he went on to command his own unit. Since a virus depleted the Viltrumite population down to less than 50 including Nolan , the Empire decided on a different strategy: taking advantage of their long life spans, they decided they should infiltrate a society first and weaken the chance of it resisting takeover. Nolan took on this mission and flew to the planet Earth to accomplish his task. On Earth, Nolan met Cecil Stedman and wanted to learn human culture. Nolan then adopted the last name Grayson to appear more human. He met a woman named Debbie , his soon-to-be wife. After getting married, Debbie gave birth to Nolan's son , Mark Grayson. Over the years, Nolan continued his battles with super-villains, which led him to his original encounter with the Guardians of the Globe , the world's premiere superhero team.

His exploits range from discovering that his physics teacher has been turning his students into human bombs, to foiling a plan by the Mauler Twins to make an army of robots. Meanwhile, Omni-Man is kidnapped by aliens and taken to another dimension. He returns after what seems to be only a few days but was actually eight months to him. The story explores various arcs such as when Mark travels to alternate dimensions and when he fights Thragg to determine the fate of Earth.

Omni-Man's attempts to appease the Viltrum Empire ended in failure with his defeat and capture at the hands of his own people. Nolan and Debbie walk through Rome until they get to L'Osteria Donato, a fancy restaurant which Nolan had made reservations to, which Debbie mentions is new. That's the opposite of how we last saw him in Season 1, when he was ready to kill anyone who got in his way of preparing Earth for the Viltrumite takeover. They find Omni-Man is alive, and they move the bodies out from the room. Emboldened by the incredible strength shown by his new ally, he begins a two-men campaign to eradicate Viltrum's supremacy.
