Overwatch 2 is asking fans to dig fairly deep into their real-life pockets for its battle pass and cosmetics, and unsurprisingly, everyone's upset. Folks have taken to the Overwatch subreddit to discuss they see as egregious battle pass prices, especially compared to the first game. Naturally, all of this means Overwatch fans are waxing nostalgic for the first iteration of the shooter, which didn't lock any cosmetics behind a paywall. Of course, there's a key difference between Overwatch 1 and 2 that should take some of the sticker shock out of the sequel's monetization structure: Overwatch 2 is a free-to-play game while Overwatch 1 required an initial purchase for entry. Still, Overwatch 2's battle pass prices are on the high side even for a free-to-play game, so these disappointed reactions aren't unwarranted. Despite this, GR's Alyssa Mercante wrote in her Overwatch 2 hands-on preview that the sequel "has the same great look and feel as its predecessor. Va is still super effective, and throwing an Orisa javelin through Sombra's gut is incredibly satisfying especially since the latter is currently far too powerful.

I found it pretty hard to get a particular skin in overwatch especially when they are limited. In fact, the amount of legendary item we can collect is not very high, therefore, the probability of having a legendary skin on the character you want is pretty hard. Which would result in destroying 10 legendary skin we have. Let me know what you think of this idea! Again same problem, if we got gold each week from doing arcade what i think you say together with the 3 loot chests, you would have no need to buy loot chests at all cause you could very easy save gold up to get the stuff you really want. Cause alot of ppl would just save up gold for events etc and then buy the 1 or 2 skins they REALLY want and then forget about the rest. If Blizz were so desperate for the money from them then none of the patches would be free content, throwing that out there. Of course they need the loot boxes in order for the game to stay profitable. Do you think they earn enough from selling the game alone to regularly support this game with new heroes and content, two years in? No chance. And even if they did, then fact of the matter is diverting energy to another project would still be more profitable. Basic economics. Loot boxes are the only reason we keep getting maps, heroes and other content, make no mistake about it.
I think it's normal to expect overwatch sell skins to shift around in a live service game's first year, but without clearly communicating it beforehand, it can be easy to think the price increases and other cosmetic variations are made purely out of greed, especially in a game that has routinely upset its fans since its release. Less than 24 hours since its release, Overwatch 2's latest season has ignited angry Reddit threads and TikTok comments from fans who are unhappy with the value of its paid hero skins. The skins transform both Overwatch heroes into the deceptive characters from Blizzard's dark fantasy action RPG, and even gives them new voice lines during combat. Of the two skins, however, Lilith Moira is the star of the season, flawlessly capturing Moira's controversial reputation in the community and the game's story. But since its launch last year, Overwatch 2's expensive shop prices and inconsistent skin quality have repeatedly upset players, especially those who were used to the original Overwatch's loot box system. The hero shooter's monetization was frequently mentioned in the flood of negative reviews it received when it launched on Steam last month, making it the worst-reviewed game on the platform. Many players feel that the skins, which are often only sold through bundles with other cosmetics, are overpriced, and want Blizzard to reward players with more of the game's premium currency for playing it.

Since Overwatch 2 transitioned to free-to-play with a monetization model in the shop and Battle Pass, skins have become more valuable than ever. Skins and other cosmetics for your favorite heroes now cost Coins, an in-game currency only purchasable with real money. Gone are the days when free skins could be earned through loot boxes and limited events. There are now over skins in Overwatch 2, with more being added with every shop rollover and new Battle Pass.

Blizzard plans to introduce a new battle pass about every nine weeks, with skins, sprays, animations, and bundles of digital goods rotating through the store on a faster cadence. The season 1 paid battle pass includes a variety of legendary- and epic-tier skins, as well as the first mythic skin, a customizable look for Genji called Cyber Ninja. The pass also includes a variety of sprays, voice lines, player icons, emotes, and two new cosmetic types: weapon charms and souvenirs. If players earn a souvenir, they can equip it from the hero gallery, and an associated emote will then be equippable from the list of owned emotes. Check out the gallery below to see the heroes of Overwatch 2 presenting the list of existing souvenirs.

Most likely they resell previous battle pass instead of selling it individually. I only use 1 skin for each character when I have like 4 legendaries OW1 player. They already put some Season 1 skins on the store you can get them with coins, they also said that for the mythic skins they are going to release one every season but they are going to give you a "mythic" token or something like that so you can unlock the mythic that you want from any BP with that token that was announced on Blizzcon this year, so hopefully that season comes next season with the BP and Competitive 3. Plus the probability of having golds is very low so….
Among the largest changes Blizzard made with Overwatch 2 is adapting the game to a free-to-play model. Some growing pains were inevitable, both for Blizzard and its audience, and players are certainly making those pains known.
