The Inpatient Phlebotomist is responsible for performing phlebotomy on inpatients including adults, adolescents, and infants with a focus on patient care, and positive communication with patients, hospital staff and co-workers conducting laboratory tests which provide information to physicians for the diagnosis, prevention or treatment of diseases in patients. Properly identify and collect adequate specimens for laboratory testing via the following collection processes:Venipuncture. This position is either evening shift with occasional days or overnights or day shift with occasional evenings or overnights. The person in this position interacts with the client, patients, and other PathGroup personnel in a professional and courteous manner and performs with confidence, both the forensic and clinical specimen collection and processing duties following established practices and procedures. Accept specimens from a variety of internal and external customers; sort samples; resolve specimen identification or requisition issues; utilize LIS to appropriately receive specimens; package and track specimens for transportation to reference laboratories. Receives and accessions collected specimens using LIS, examines for testing acceptability, centrifuges and aliquots specimens as needed and delivers to the appropriate section in the laboratory or batches specimens for courier pick-up.
