The Ping G15 Irons are certainly a ping g15 of evolution not revolution and Ping have not forgotten the traits that made the G10 irons so appealing to so many people. We liked the G10 irons and we were hopeful that the G15 irons would be even better. In our tests the G15 irons were a ping g15 to hit, ping g15. They were very forgiving right across the face and the full cavity graphics badge did its job in enhancing the feel and sound of the club at impact.

And that love continued in the hands of our test team who raved about the mix of power, forgiveness and feel. The G15 features a seven per cent larger face than the 10 model and this, coupled with the External Sole Weight Pad, means it is more forgiving than before as well as also being lower-spinning — so even better players can take advantage. Leon preferred the looks of the i15 but admitted that was no reason not to put this one in the bag, commenting particularly on the solid feel and forgiveness while John returned one of his best dispersion ratings with no compromise on distance — exactly what a player of his handicap is looking for. If the G10 provides maximum forgiveness then what do you call an iron that provides even more forgiveness? PING calls it the G For me, I imagine the silky smooth feel of the sweet spot. I visualize the ball curving through the air at will. I can almost see the ball falling to the green with just enough spin to bounce twice and then stop. They might look down desperately searching for that microscopic sweet spot, trembling at the thought of the painful reverberations of a mis-hit. Karsten Solheim may not have been one of those golfers who feared the sweet spot but he certainly empathized with them. Nearly 40 years later, the USGA may want to reopen that claim. Design and Technology Like its predecessor, the G15 is an oversized iron designed for players seeking maximum forgiveness. However, several changes have been made which PING believes should make the club even more forgiving. The weight savings of a thinner face allowed the engineers move weight to the perimeter — particularly the toe — to improve forgiveness for off-center hits as well as increase MOI. PING believes that these changes provide the proper structure and support to ensure distance control and solid feel. A second change from the G10 is the sole design. The groves are painted the same with one final grove painted in white to help with alignment. The hosel has the same characteristic gouge all PING irons have had in recent years.

Every year it seems like one company after another hypes up the release of their new driver yet to the point almost no one even listens anymore. Because every year so many of them fall short of their promises and claims. Of course every company is going to try and hype their product…we get it…that is what sells clubs. But we are out to have the most informed golf blog on the planet. So…if it is good we will tell you it is good and if it is bad we will tell you just how bad it really is. And that brings us to our Ping G15 review today…and is another reason why I talked about hype. You rarely hear it coming from this company.

I love the fitting cart and the color coded scale Ping created years ago that make sure every golfer can get the exact lie angle needed for maximum performance. I am a red dot player. Just like always, they came in spot on. The scoring clubs did come in at D2, which felt perfect. The weight comes from a thinner more explosive face. The 7grams of weight taken from the face are put out on the toe and a Custom Tuning Port which might just seem like a medallion is much more than that behind the sweetspot. The look is a little bit much with such a busy cavity, but the new colors are great. Black and Red really look nice on the brushed dark stainless head.

On a longer par five, I was left with a side-hill lie in some pretty thick rough. For me, I imagine the silky smooth feel of the sweet spot. I thouht new clubs would help. Literally, no matter what angle you look at the club, the wide sole — which is even wider than before — was unavoidable. Peach 14 years ago. If so, you might be able to pretty effectively use the 9 at different lengths to close the gap. The offset is just too much on these clubs for me. I have been playing Titleist DCI blacks for about 9 years I am a handicap and decided to look at new irons. You really need to figure out a way to hit both before making your decision though.
