There are two types of plywood sheathing: structural and non-structural. When you need structural plywood sheathing and you get it mixed up with non-structural, you will have potentially catastrophic consequences. The main difference between structural and non-structural plywood is the type of glue used in the manufacturing of the boards. Plywood boards that meet structural standards have A-Bond types of glue bond. These are boards that are produced from phenol formaldehyde resin which will create a glue bond that will not weaken if exposed to wet conditions as well as temperature changes. B-Bonds are also considered structural plywood and made with Melamine-urea-formaldehyde. Non-structural plywood, on the other hand, falls under the C-D Bond. This means that the boards are produced from urea formaldehyde resin and is not suitable for structural as well as outdoor use. The glue bond will deteriorate when it is exposed to wet and damp conditions as well as temperature changes. Raised-heel trusses deliver cost-effective energy performance, especially when used with continuous plywood or OSB sheathing. Wood structural plywood sheathing maintains the structural durability of the home and allows walls to be insulated to higher R-values, resulting in high strength wall systems that are cost effective and contractor friendly. Plywood and OSB sheathing are both code-recognized air barrier materials.
The second number is the maximum center-to-center spacing of plywood sheathing in inches when the panel is used for sub-flooring with the long dimension across supports. Accept Cookies.
The stiff and strong quality construction is Ideal for both residential and light commercial construction. Exposure 1 : Plywood suitable for uses not permanently exposed to the weather. Panels classified as Exposure 1 are intended to resist the effects of moisture on structural performance as may occur due to construction delays, or other conditions of similar severity. Whenever possible, store panels under a roof. Keep sanded panels and appearance-grade products away from high-traffic areas to prevent damage to surfaces. Use pieces of lumber to weigh down the top panel in a stack to reduce warpage from humidity. If moisture absorption is expected, cut steel bands on bundles to prevent edge damage.

Plywood is a commonly used material in a wide range of construction projects, including furniture-making, deck-building, exterior home construction, interior home construction, and custom woodworking. Plywood is a type of engineered wood that is made by gluing together several thin layers, which are called plies. The plies are oriented and attached with alternating right angles in order to create a strong durable cross-grain pattern. One of the reasons it's used so widely is because it resists shrinkage and expansion caused by moisture. Plywood has been one of the most recognized and trusted wood building products for decades. Manufactured from thin sheets of cross-laminated veneer and bonded under heat and pressure with strong adhesives, plywood panels have superior dimensional stability and an excellent strength-to-weight ratio and are highly resistant to impacts, chemicals, and changes in environmental temperature and humidity. Plywood manufactured by APA member mills is available in a wide variety of appearance grades, ranging from smooth, natural surfaces suitable for finish work to more economical grades used for sheathing. With more than a dozen common thicknesses and over twenty different grades, plywood is well-suited to a multitude of demanding applications. The mark signifies that panel quality is subject to verification through APA audit—a procedure designed to assure manufacture in conformance with APA performance standards or the standard shown in the mark.
