Let's start from the bottom up. Therefore I wanted to touch on a few of the muscle groups to consider that help provide stability in the foot while transitioning through the gait cycle.

I was curious to experience those shoes. After reading the Puma Velocity Nitro review by GeeksOnfeet review here and having them available at good discounts on Amazon, I took the bait. I have chanced upon Liberate Nitro, and it seemed a perfect match. It is built as a traditional shoe with a heel drop of 10mm. With a published weight of g for US9 and g for size for my size US 11, it is one of the lightest shoes in the Indian market. Unlike the Velocity Nitro, the midsole has only one layer of foam i. Nitro foam is made by infusing Nitrogen into EVA.

The upper provides a low-volume but comfortable fit that is reminiscent of minimal shoes of the past. The midsole is full-length Nitro foam that not only sits as a lower stack height but also compresses well to provide decent ground feel. Some heel slippage requires some re-lacing, but the Puma Liberate Nitro 2 provides some mild cushioning for those who want a light, comfortable easy day shoe for foot strengthening or to take a break from the super stack norms of the footwear industry. The volume is low, especially at the forefoot and the width is fairly normal for a lightweight trainer. The forefoot mesh has some stretch to it but fits normal. I was surprised as it look more snug but there was decent room for my toes. The midfoot fits normally with a thin gusseted tongue. There are additional internal reinforcements in the midfoot for lockdown. However, I did not find these to offset the wider, loose heel.

Overall, the upper lives up to the "Liberate" name, with minimal reinforcements and flexible materials. The upper really consists of two layers. The first and most visible is the very thin mono mesh upper that is akin to the one seen in the Deviate Nitro Elite, which in my opinions is the most comfortable mono mesh upper out there and laces down extremely well. My version, the wicked snazzy COOLadapt green colorway, is also said to have COOLadapt tech within the upper to keep the foot cool not sure how it's supposed to work, but as you'll read soon

The rest of the heel cup is a thin material with some padding on the inside and outside of the heel to protect the achilles and provide some security.

Unlike the Velocity Nitro, the midsole has only one layer of foam i. It is built as a traditional shoe with a heel drop of 10mm. The forefoot and midfoot parts are pretty flexible and do not have any particular stability constructs. I took only the Liberate on a long weekend getaway that featured consecutive days of 10 miles on asphalt with 40 minutes of tempo intervals, 90 minutes easy on forest trails, and 10 miles steady on a crushed-gravel rail-trail.
