Hullo, Gentle Readers. As always, big thanks to Scott Fabianek for the amazing original art which he amended to add more drool before approving for me to post. The PW is a pretty tough cookie at CR 15, so it should be saved for higher level groups of adventurers. Its vulnerabilities mostly come from lower saving throw in Dexterity, Intelligence, and Charisma, so keep that in mind if your party has a tendency to use those kinds of attacks. Its speed of 50 feet means that it can outrun most fleeing adventurers, so keep this in mind if you set up some kind of chase scene for a lower-level party. It can also burrow, leaving tunnels behind it, which could lead to a very cool three-dimensional fight, as the PCs work to chase it or flee it. Its attacks are pretty devastating, even though it only has two. Its bite is strong, but it has an automatic attempt to swallow its victim thereafter, setting up the possibility of automatic acid damage every round and putting the foe at an extreme disadvantage being blinded and restrained. The initial damage of this attack is almost as damaging as its bite, but, assuming the target fails on the VERY high Constitution saving throw and is not immune to poison, the target will end up taking, on average, an extra 42 poison damage. If it takes sufficient damage, it will retreat in the name of self-preservation. It will try to eat whatever food it finds, and it regards anything it encounters as food. The text suggests that purple worms are attracted to loud noises. If the PCs are in the Underdark, and they make undue amounts of noise, they might cause a purple worm to appear. Mostly, I imagine purple worms as tunneling along through the Underdark and, when they sense something, heading right towards it.
