The tank howitzer version was accepted for service use, but the infantry version was not. The howitzer was built up from a section of a QF 3. In most regiments, the 95 mm-armed tanks were issued to regimental or squadron HQ troops at the rate of two vehicles per HQ. The only variant of the Centaur tank a Cromwell tank with a less powerful engine to see action was the 95 mm-armed Mark IV. The Ordnance QF mm infantry howitzer was a version built as a conventional towed artillery piece. Perhaps in response to the success of the German sIG 33 , a proposal was circulated in the summer of by the British Army for an infantry howitzer for direct fire against concrete structures, like pillboxes.

Overall, PE is not worth it and the plane is not designed for passengers only for long haul efficiency.

It was obtained by boring out the Ordnance QF 6-pounder "6 pdr" 57 mm anti-tank gun to 75 mm, to give better performance against infantry targets in a similar fashion to the 75 mm M3 gun fitted to the American Sherman tank. The QF came from "quick-firing" , referring to the use of ammunition where the shell has a fixed cartridge. Prior to the introduction of the ROQF 75 mm, British tanks had been equipped with first the QF 2-pounder 40 mm and then the larger 6-pounder 57 mm. These guns were designed to fire armour-piercing shot , small high-velocity solid rounds that were effective against tanks but did little damage to groups of infantry or soft targets like trucks. The decision to equip British tanks with a gun capable of firing HE shells at soft targets was taken by the War Office. A HE shell for the 6-pounder was in production by the start of the Tunisia Campaign and available in large numbers in the Italian Campaign. The round lacked sufficient explosive power, but the power of the US 75 mm HE round used in the 75 mm M3 was found to be markedly superior and a number of Churchills used in Italy had guns scavenged from Sherman tanks and fitted to their turrets to give the Churchill NA75 NA coming from "North Africa" where the conversions were carried out. Approximately were converted in this way. Vickers was working on a high velocity 75 mm gun to be fitted to British tanks. With a barrel length of 50 calibres, it would have had about twice the muzzle energy of the US 75 mm gun.

Howitzers are one of two primary types of field artillery. Historically, howitzers fired a heavy shell in a high-trajectory from a relatively short barrel and their range was limited but they were slightly more mobile than similar size field guns. Since the end of World War II , howitzers have gained longer barrels and hence increased range to become gun-howitzers. Contents move to sidebar hide.

Every tike i moved, i managed to pish one of the buttons. Seat 46 J is a standard Economy Class seat with additional legroom, however, the proximity to the lavatories may be bothersome. Seat 59 F is a standard Economy Class seat in the last row of this aircraft and has limited recline. This seat was great, had great legroom with a really comfortable net leg rest. The premium economy seats are uncomfortably hard. Jumped on domestic leg Perth to Melbourne and was just ok. Avoid this plane and the Perth-Heathrow flights. I am a Frequent Flyer and i generally sit in the front end of the plane. Not so sure about 17 hours in it though. Very annoying. I wonder if any of the marketing hot shots actually sit in these things! The biggest advantage of this seat is the large floor area between the seat and the window - great for placing bags or just stretching out. Rows DEF do not have overhead bins due to the crew rest above.

The QF 2.

Jumped on domestic leg Perth to Melbourne and was just ok. Was lucky enough to get an exit row seat in the main economy section. The economy seats were extremely narrow. Perhaps in response to the success of the German sIG 33 , a proposal was circulated in the summer of by the British Army for an infantry howitzer for direct fire against concrete structures, like pillboxes. Seat 40 C is a standard Economy Class seat with additional legroom, however, the position of the bassinet may be bothersome. All the cabin staff seemed to be Brits with no concept of Qantas Aussie style service. No shelf to put anything like a book or phone etc. Qantas should address this disgraceful siuation. Flat Bed Business Rows Testing in showed that the recoil system and the carriage were over stressed and redesign was needed, which delayed testing and introduction of the infantry howitzer until Seat 59 J is a standard Economy Class seat in the last row of this aircraft and has limited recline.
