At the facility, organic waste was separated and broken down for re-purposing. Almost 20 years later, in one of the state's busiest tourist destinations, the site continues to process thousands of tonnes of waste each year, which is then re-distributed to some of the Hunter Valley's large mine sites for rehabilitative purposes. The facility at Raymond Terrace was developed by Port Stephens Council and sub-contracted to waste management company Suez. The process itself is extremely robust.
