September 15, was the last day in the history of the Cassini mission. On that day, the spacecraft entered the atmosphere of Saturn and turned into a meteor.

Cassini arrived at Saturn in , after a seven-year voyage. It was the first spacecraft to orbit the ringed planet. Like Earth, Saturn has a tilted axis. Each season on Saturn lasts about seven Earth years. Cassini detected lightning deep within the planet. As it descended, the probe recorded rivers and deltas carved by methane rain. Cassini discovered geysers near the south pole of Enceladus, where plumes of water shoot into space and fall back as bright snow. Cassini flew through the plumes many times. Could alien microbes be living inside Enceladus? It will take a future mission, and another spacecraft, to find the answer. Tethys is mostly water ice, marked with a large crater on one side and a canyon running from pole to pole on the other. Mimas is one of the most battered moons in the solar system, bearing dents and dimples from ancient impacts. Hyperion is pockmarked and irregular, and tumbles chaotically in its orbit around the planet. The moons Janus and Epimetheus share the same orbit, slipping past each other every four years in an endless relay race.

By Fiona Jackson For Mailonline. An astrophotographer has taken his clearest ever picture of Saturn while it made its closest approach to Earth this year. Our planet moved almost directly between Saturn and the sun on Sunday, in an annual celestial event known as 'opposition'. This is the moment when the gas giant is closest to us and is in its full phase, so can make for a great view even with the naked eye. Andrew McCarthy dodged the monsoon weather of Arizona in search of clearer skies to catch a glimpse of the ringed planet above Los Angeles , US, on Sunday.
Saturn is truly the lord of the rings in this latest snapshot from NASA's Hubble Space Telescope, taken on July 4, , when the opulent giant world was million miles from Earth. This new Saturn image was taken during summer in the planet's northern hemisphere. Hubble found a number of small atmospheric storms. These are transient features that appear to come and go with each yearly Hubble observation. The banding in the northern hemisphere remains pronounced as seen in Hubble's observations, with several bands slightly changing color from year to year. The ringed planet's atmosphere is mostly hydrogen and helium with traces of ammonia, methane, water vapor, and hydrocarbons that give it a yellowish-brown color. Hubble photographed a slight reddish haze over the northern hemisphere in this color composite. This may be due to heating from increased sunlight, which could either change the atmospheric circulation or perhaps remove ices from aerosols in the atmosphere. Another theory is that the increased sunlight in the summer months is changing the amounts of photochemical haze produced. Conversely, the just-now-visible south pole has a blue hue, reflecting changes in Saturn's winter hemisphere.

The false-color image - taken Jan. This view provides detailed information on the clouds and hazes in Saturn's atmosphere. The blue colors indicate a clear atmosphere down to a main cloud layer. Different shadings of blue indicate variations in the cloud particles, in size or chemical composition. The cloud particles are believed to be ammonia ice crystals. Most of the northern hemisphere that is visible above the rings is relatively clear. The dark region around the south pole at the bottom indicates a big hole in the main cloud layer. The green and yellow colors indicate a haze above the main cloud layer. The haze is thin where the colors are green but thick where they are yellow. Most of the southern hemisphere the lower part of Saturn is quite hazy.

OnlyFans stars are shamelessly bypassing Instagram's nudity restrictions by pretending to breastfeed baby One of the most mysterious structures of Saturn is called the hexagon. The planet is named for the Roman god of agriculture and wealth, who was also the father of Jupiter. It is similar to the rest of the planet, but made of a 'slush' like material of gasses, metallic fluids, rock and ice. A superior planet one with an orbit farther from the sun than Earth's is in opposition when Earth passes between it and the sun. He said: 'It narrows the amount of light that's coming through and passes it down to the infrared, which is going to scatter significantly less than those the shorter wavelengths, like blue.
