Realistic sta 2000
Reviewed Jul 18th, by badvinyl. Highly underated receiver!
As a kid, I used to hang visit the local Tandy store and marvel at all the wonderful array of electronics for sale. One of my favourite things was my Science Fair in-1 electronics kit , a Christmas present from my parents, purchased from Tandy Electronics. I had a small pair of Realistic speakers and lusted after the legendary Mach One speakers proudly on display at my local store, probably not far away from this old girl. Thanks to Norman and Ed, American readers who worked for Tandy Corporation, we have more information on this, though perhaps still no definitive answers. Norman told me that the STA was manufactured by Foster, a Japanese OEM who made speakers, radios and various other electronics for many companies back in the day.

As you may know, Realistic was the house brand of Radio Shack and was meant to compete with Pioneer, Kenwood, Sansui and other receivers at the time. Most of the Realistic receivers are well built and perform very well. Price wise they were very competitive with the other audio brands at the time. The styling of the STA is very nice and is reminiscent of the Pioneer models of the same era. The wood panels are walnut veneer which matches nicely with the silver face. As you can see it has a very large flywheel tuning knob and the other knobs and buttons are nicely laid out. It has dual calibrated power meters that show actual power output to the speakers as well as a dual function meter that shows both FM center tuning and AM signal strength. The unit really looks nice lit up. Many feel that the D is not as good sounding as the The lower left push button in the set of 8 buttons on the front of the receiver is a 20db volume attenuator on the STA but was changed to a Dolby button on the STAD.
Norman, realistic sta 2000, do you deny deny the realistic sta 2000 of Tandy Electronics in Japan and Korea? Mike, When a company private labels a component Foster Electric that company becomes in essence an extension of the company they private label for Tandywhich is why Tandy could advertise that they were built in their own factory.

Ahhhhh, okay. The STA rivaled any of the Pioneer big rigs of the time. Also very hard to find. Hi, the first issue would be whether or not the receiver works properly. Do you deny they manufactured Realistic receivers? Aug 22, johnp Can only confirm what is written about the STA Excellent sound and performance, big power supply with 2x uf, even good tuner and Phono stage. While Pioneer receivers at this level used a 5 gang FM front end, the Realistics used 4 gangs. It was great. Most older speakers have grill covers that can be removed by hand. Sep 18, Jayrosc. The service manual shows a 7A V fuse for the one on the back panel. Or you could go with a pair of Mach 1 s which are a kickass speaker with a 15 inch woofer. Great post! Here is a picture from Simply Speakers that shows before and after foam surround problems. Is it verified somewhere that Foster made these units? Log in.
