Red faction

The game was inspired by several works of contemporary science fiction. Red Faction takes place on Mars in the late 21st century. The player controls a miner named Parker who helps lead a rebellion against the Ultor Corporation. The premiere feature of the game is its "Geo-Mod" technology, short for " geometry modification", which provided destructible environments , allowing the player to destroy certain sections of the scenery in the game. For example, instead of opening a door, a player could blast through the rock surrounding the door. On November 29, , the game was made available for the PlayStation 4 through the PlayStation Network with added features such as trophy support and widescreen resolutions. The game features GeoMod technology, which allows players to significantly alter and otherwise affect the surrounding terrain and buildings, either with explosives or otherwise. Past games had allowed limited alteration of the environment through scripted means, or special triggered areas which would add or remove certain predefined level elements. Red Faction was the first video game that allowed players unscripted level-altering possibilities. The PC version of Red Faction includes an extra level called "Glass House" which allows the player to experiment with GeoMod as a mechanic in a sandbox environment.

Thus ensues a battle by a group of lowly workers, red faction, headed up by the educated Parker, to expose the deadly experiments Ultor has unleashed onto its work force.

Red Faction is a series of shooter video games developed by Volition and owned by Plaion. Original developers Volition have retained the rights to the series since , with no updates provided on whether a future fifth game since is in the works or may be so in the future. The series is known for the struggle of the working people usually miners of Mars fighting for independence from off world oppressors. The second and fourth games differ in story to the aforementioned games, with two being set on Earth fighting a despot with the fourth primarily fighting an alien species as opposed to a human faction. The series has had three unique styles of gameplay. The first is a traditional first-person shooter element which was used by the first two games in the series, while the second is a third-person style of open world gameplay which was used in Red Faction: Guerrilla , and a third-person style of corridor shooter used in Red Faction: Armageddon. Both styles share a common element, the series' unique environmental destruction features.
