At the end of Season 2, Jen and Judy are in a hit-and-run. We quickly learn that Jen is has no serious injuries other than a few bruised ribs — but Judy, who came out of the accident mostly unscathed, has CAT scans showing shadows in her abdomen. Unless it was a few weeks? The core of her story has been wanting desperately to start a family of her own and being unable to do so. Those same tragic events have also helped Jen learn to be a little softer and a little more loving. Still, I was fine suspending my disbelief here, because doing so made the stakes for Season 2 so much higher.

But in its desire to wrap up all of its loose ends along the way, Feldman and the writers stuff too many ideas into the mix, almost as if speedrunning a three-season arc into the one final turn at bat that Netflix would actually shell out for. But the sheer weight of all those deceptions, whether towards themselves or others, tends to bog down the season throughout its five-hour runtime. Ever the charmer, Marsden sometimes steals scenes right out from under Applegate and Cardellini by sheer dopey gumption. His journey, at least for most of the season, is interesting, his transgressions throwing him into the same cycle of guilt Jen and Judy started with. Still, the show's core remains Applegate and Cardellini, who are innately watchable even when the story starts doing somersaults around itself.

Judy and Jen track down "bambi88", a waitress whose name is actually Bambi. It's fun to see things progressing not knowing what will happen next. Other than Queens Gambit of course. So confusing. From the first show to end of season two season three is coming the writing has been excellent. Great job. Judy fakes a seizure, swipes a nurse's identification badge, and steals pain relievers for Jen just as Judy used to fake seizures as a girl so her mom could steal drugs. Where is everything going? Filming is complete. She begs Judy to consider a clinical trial; but Judy, who just wants to spend her remaining time with their family without being made sick from chemo, declines.
