Born in Dallas , Texas , United States, Tutt was a native Texan and was involved with music and performing arts for most of his childhood. In an early gig, he appeared on the same bill as a then little-known Elvis Presley. Tutt didn't think much of him, as his girlfriend spent the evening making eyes at him. Tutt recounted this story to Presley years later when he was working for him, which Presley found hilarious. He flew in with his drum kit, which he set up in the recording studio, though while he was waiting to be called, another drummer walked in and began playing his kit.

He was Ron was a power drummer who also played with finesse. His timing was impeccable and he played his drum parts to the lyrics, as well as the music in any song he played on. His live performances with Elvis Presley were legendary. He will be greatly missed. Tutt's daughter, Terie Tutt, on Sunday announced her father's death. His wife, Donna, told TMZ. Ronnie Tutt was a drummer who performed and recorded with artists including Elvis Presley — and Jerry Garcia — Tutt remained with the TCB Band throughout their time with Presley as well as joining them for several reunions. Someone looking back on their life always finds old photographs or films that they decide will remain hidden. We felt very excited it was energetic, from the stand point of that you had a captured audience, for the first time rather than a lot of other extenuating circumstances, reasons that people where in Vegas. College allowed me to break into a melting pot of musicians from all over Northern America, that allowed us to go out and work in the Dallas, Fort Worth area, and actually hone your skills of playing while going to school while you're there. They obviously were very tired of auditioning drummers; they'd found somebody who played well. I said 'sure'. So I watch as the evening's going on and Gene's playing very well and everybody's nodding very approvingly like. That's what I wanted. I think the one thing if you knew anything about Elvis at all, I think a very insightful person, whether it be management or whoever, would have realised that Elvis does get bored easily.
