Runbox email review
First, let me say I have no affiliation with Runbox, nor do I know anyone personally at Runbox, nor do I have any financial interest in the company or its products. I am simply reviewing their email solution after studying alternatives for months. If this review gets a little long-winded, I apologize. I just want to be thorough. I am a computer scientist by training and trade. I ran my own email server for about 13 years before giving up and first using a web hosting service, and then google workspace. Since I am getting rather long in the tooth, I began to worry about what would happen to my domain if I die or become incapacitated. Loss of domain would result in loss of email for my whole family, not just me. And there are many ways I could lose the domain: the domain provider could be compromised, I might forget to renew the domain, a problem with a credit card could result in the domain not be renewed, etc. Since no one in my family had the knowledge or the desire to maintain the domain, much less learn how to maintain and administer either the domain or the email service, I needed to look for a simpler solution and still be able to help my family with their email needs.

Version 7, which was in beta when we passed by here in , remains in beta today, in It is rare I give such a glowing review, but I been greatly happy with Runbox and so has my Family. While Runbox is not free, it offers a day trial period to test it out. In short, you will want to sync your Runbox account with a third-party email client if you plan to make much use of it on your mobile device. From the home page, you can choose to log into Runbox 6, or the Runbox 7 beta. It will appear shortly. Click on the link in that email to get started. In particular, we wanted to see how it stacks up against other secure email providers and the more intense threat environment. Hackers seem to be going after a wide range of targets including the recent assault on the email accounts of the City of Chicago in the USA. For this reason, you will need to install a third-party extension such as Mailvelope to encrypt emails with PGP. Anybody who does use the webmail interface rather than a stand-alone client must be aware that because encryption occurs within their browser using Mailvelope there are some security issues to bear in mind which apply to all JavaScript mail clients and not just Mailfence. Mailfence is another good option, although like Runbox, it also does not store plain-text messages encrypted at rest but plans to in the future. From that moment on, it is possible to make support requests from within the Runbox account -meaning that you don't necessarily have to hold on to that burner address, either.
