As opposed to the vast majority of the stories in the BL genre, where the plots are generally pushed forward by the protagonists' interactions, Saezuru has a very carefully crafted narrative. I will go as far as to say that Saezuru's subplot is as prominent as the conflict between Yashiro and Doumeki, so much so that even if the chemistry was completely removed, the series would still stand like an old Cantanese gangster movie.
