Sennheiser hd600 headphones review

The Sennheiser HD are good critical listening headphones not meant for other uses. They're decently comfortable and have an above-average build quality.

The reviewer is giving his honest experience with the product and was not paid to write a favorable article. The gear was purchased due to interest and enjoyment in quality of sound. The Sennheiser HD is a headphone that has been in my memory ever since I started reading about HiFi, however, at the time, neutral meant bright or maybe even flat and nonmusical to me. I have sensitivity to treble and spent a lot of time with the HD trying to find an ideal setup with a slightly warm yet detailed signature instead. The Sennheiser HD is considered by many to be a headphone that is for audio purists. If you prefer a more life-like presentation, there are more deeply resolving and layered, highly analytical, yet also fun headphones like the HEse , but the Sennheiser HD stands as a great and highly musical headphone, if you don't mind the more faithful presentation. I can use the HD when experimenting with different components in my chain; it helps me discern different characteristics in my chain and how they sound while still being really enjoyable.

They are probably the most famous headphones released in the past 20 years. Some will find their appearance dated and reminiscent of the nineties because of the blue « marble effect » covering the plastic, but I actually find them pretty. To be honest, aesthetics is generally not a priority for me as far as headphones are concerned. However, some people like owning nice-looking gear and I totally understand them. The Sennheiser HD are mostly made of plastic, but it has a high-quality plastic feel that is more premium in the hands than that of the competitors, such as the AKG K or the Beyerdynamic DT The construction is very solid, especially the metal articulation between the headband assembly and the ear cups. The ear pads are made of high-quality velour, but they will definitely wear out after some years of intense use.

The mid-range is great.

The Sennheiser HD is a very utilitarian set of open-backed cans , though it mercifully avoids many of the pitfalls of some other popular competitors. The cloth padding is a boon for glasses-wearers and those who tend to get a little sweaty indoors, as that material is far more forgiving for both than leather. Because the ear cups are so big, those with larger heads will find a capable ally in this product. Said band is the lone weak spot in the otherwise stellar design of the Sennheiser HD , as it uses the same easily-compressed foam as the ear pads.

They also don't isolate by design, so they won't be a good option to use outdoors.

Reactions: trellus , dr3wd4wg , bosiemoncrieff and 1 other person. These play what I like very well. With the Dragonfly Black out of my PC, it has more detail and more than enough power, but I still found it a bit harsh. This is a classic for a good reason, it just does so much right. SoundGuys purchased this particular unit for this review. Specification Value Impedance. Conclusion The Sennheiser HD has been around for 20 years now. With the new pad revision, the pads are noticeably stiffer, and last much longer. I find the HD to be very close to neutral, with a coherence from the bass up to the treble.
