Reaching a destination and not remembering the specifics of getting there feels disconcerting yet almost thrilling. And even though I might not recall these drives, the version of me that was behind the wheel was definitely still me. Even though the outies may not remember the days in their windowless cubicles, their innies are, for all intents and purposes, still versions of them. This week, Severance drives this point home in several different ways. First, Dylan is experiencing a lot of cognitive dissonance from the memory of his son the night before. Dylan is distraught. And the more he expresses his emotions, the more Milchick tries to shut him down. Did Milchick expect him to forget? To let it go? And furious tigers tend to bite. The management on the severed floor has gone entirely off the rails. And Milchick is on his own to clean up the mess.

Things are really starting to hit the fan in the latest episode of the Apple TV Plus series Severance. In fact, it appears that the hold Lumon has had on the company's Innnies for years is finally fraying to the point of breaking and at least in part, that control is slipping for reasons it usually does. Lumon decided its hold on those who went through the Severance procedure was far stronger and more dependable then it actually was. It forgot that while the Innies are oddities, they are indeed people who have thoughts and emotions and desires. When the firm allowed the Innies to experience a world that was outside their little office space, they realized that was just part of a bigger world.
On Severance Season 1 Episode 7 , things get heavy and philosophical thanks to the brief introduction of Rugabe, the woman who administered the severance procedure and now is responsible for reintegration. With Doug Graner dead and Ms. Cobel doing reconnaissance, Milchick is in charge, and he loses control fast. In Severance Season 1 Episode 1 , one of the things Helly asks is if she is livestock, to which Mark scoffs. But Rugabe is pretty blatant in that severance brings sentient life into the world to fulfill human's base desires without caring about their wants or needs -- sounds like livestock to me! You brought him into this world without his permission, based on your own desire for emotional convenience. Severance posits a question that Mark didn't consider. He is doing what it takes to heal from Gemma's death, to switch himself off, which is his coping mechanism. It's probably not healthy, but he didn't consider that he was hurting anybody. As clear as it is to us viewers, now, the ethical scope of severance is not something that many people seem to consider when electing to get the procedure.

Two things: 1, you may be on to something with Selvig being an older soul. And I think that that was the biggest change that came about through working with Ben [Stiller] and working with Red Hour [the production company]. The show centers on a group of employees who agree to allow the company they work for, Lumon, to sever their memories so that they are able to separate their work and personal life. However, everyone is on edge and for once Helly seems the most well-adjusted person in the room.
Rugabe said she would contact Outie Mark, but will she somehow encounter Innie Mark on the outside? Highly recommend this episode, probably the best one yet. Glad you enjoy the recaps.
