Sydney Festival is returning in January with its biggest line-up of international artists since Artistic director Olivia Ansell has put together a hefty program for her second festival — performances and unique events across 25 days and 54 venues. Up above, in the building itself — a room hotel — American musician Kelsey Lu will present The Lucid: A Dream Portal to Awakening , an eight-hour world-premiere audio journey. As ever, theatre plays a big role in the festival. Heartbreak High actor Thomas Weatherall wrote and will star in Blue , a monologue examining a young life at a crossroad, at Belvoir. Local pop star Montaigne will soundtrack Holding Achilles , a modern look at the Trojan War hero and his lover Patroclus. In Chamber , a site-specific work created by UK poet and saxophonist Alabaster dePlume will be piped into the soundproof box. Other highlights? Indigenous works and performers also take centrestage this year.
