The initial investigations quickly declared the death as not suspicious but those closest to Simo began a probe of their own, determined to find answers. Taking the investigation into their own hands, the father and daughter duo were able to ascertain a timeline of when Simo may have died. That should have been something the police did," Amanda said. In her application to Deputy Coroner Jacqui Hawkins, Amanda said the initial investigation was "inadequate and incomplete" and instead asked for the case to be reopened. The Gaskill family's application to the coroner worked and more than a year after his disappearance, Simo's case was reopened.
