A prosecutor in Bruce Lehrmann 's rape trial sent the political staffer's defence lawyer a barrage of furious texts at 7am, demanding to know whether he leaked sensitive police documents to the media. The heated exchange between Mr Lehrmann's barrister Steven Whybrow and prosecutor Skye Jerome appears in documents released by a Board of Inquiry, which is investigating how the trial last October was handed by prosecutors and police. It was abandoned due to jury misconduct. He pleaded not guilty and has always maintained his innocence. She then sent him a link to a story in The Weekend Australian newspaper, which published a police document - known as the Moller report - less than a day after the case was dropped. Mr Lehrmann has always denied raping Brittany Higgins at Parliament House when the pair were Liberal Party staffers, and there have been no findings made against him. The first public revelations of the strained relationship between police and prosecutors working on the case came when The Australian obtained documents that outlined the concerns investigators held about the strength of the evidence and Ms Higgins' credibility. Ms Jerome, who appeared as junior counsel for the prosecution at Mr Lehrmann's trial, contacted Mr Whybrow within an hour of the newspaper publishing its article online. Ms Jerome quickly fired back a link to the article, saying it was "outrageous". This prompted Ms Jerome to screenshot the story and send it to the defence barrister. Mr Whybrow finished giving oral evidence on Tuesday at the independent inquiry, at which he expressed fears Mr Drumgold had "aligned himself with Ms Higgins" instead of remaining an impartial minister for justice. Director of Public Prosecutions Shane Drumgold SC is expected to be the first witness called when the independent probe begins public hearings on Monday. His evidence is due to be followed by that of Mr Lehrmann's barrister, Steven Whybrow SC, during what the inquiry has described as the first of four "modules". Executive director Helen Banks said the first module, which will focus on the Director of Public Prosecutions, was expected to run until Tuesday next week.
