Established in following meetings with the community, people expressed interest in forming a sailing club.

It is approximately 70 kilometres one hour from Melbourne. It is an ideal location for both on water and off water activities. There are multiple accommodation options from camping walking distance away to houses in Balnarring, Somers and Merricks, all within 5 minutes drive from the yacht club. The natural geography of the land and shore provides a great site for boating activities. Balnarring Bight is a shallow bay, ringed with a series of reefs which are partly exposed at low tide.

The beach at the base of Flinders pier is good for flathead too, I've caught a lot there without going on the pier itself. WYC is a very friendly club with a good rigging area not far to sail to the course, somers yacht club webcam.

Sea Rescue Whilst our experienced sailors will continue to be rostered on to "ses rescue duty" , non-sailing members are encouraged to volunteer as "assistants" on all three rescue boats involved in course setting, starting procedure and sailor safety. You may evenm consider obtaining your boat drivers licence and doing a safety handing course. Also, we need to expand our number of tractor drivers to launch and retrieve our rescue boats. Race Management We currently have a small and dedicated team who control the racing and record the results from the control tower each race-day. Non-sailors who would like to "learn the ropes" in this important aspect of our club will add to the resources and experience of the current team.

The link above will be open for members to add their name to until the start of the season. We want to offer you flexibility and choice of when you can share your time and skills to help at the club. After Opening day the link will still be live but only viewed by you. Our Sailing Committee will be able to edit and update any changes needed. If you have not added your name yourself, our patrol boat roster coordinator and tower coordinator will allocate a time for you to volunteer.

Weed in the water seems to scare them away too, you can check that on the yacht club's webcam - if there is weed on the beach there is weed in the water. Had a couple of taps , hooked something small but lost it in the resulting weed tangle. For flatties the ideal conditions are a falling tide at sunrise, with no wind or a light northerly. Lots of open water with hard sand access from rigging area. Home now and enjoying a beer. I don't fish there in a southerly wind. The beers make the day sweeter. Enjoy the coldie :thumbsup:. For the golfers there a number of up market courses. The club has also hosted the annual statewide regatta of the Lonsdale Flotilla of the Australian Naval Cadets and significant local community events such as a highly successful bushfire relief appeal.
