With construction underway on its forthcoming third location at Davie St, Sula Indian Restaurant has shared some details about what guests can expect when it opens in the new year. The Davie Street branch of Sula will reflect a bit of a departure from what fans of the Indian restaurant have grown accustomed to at its locations on Commercial Drive and Main Street. We are thrilled to introduce this exciting new concept in Vancouver's West End neighbourhood and be part of the community there. Vancouver's West End emerged as the top choice for where in the city Sula could best grow its brand. Kesari Kitchen , a restaurant specializing in "divine, healthy Indian cuisine," shut down after just two years in Vancouver's West End. Prior to being Kesari, that location was home to Pacifico; before that, it was the burger spot Relish. The short-lived Indian restaurant had a large menu with an emphasis on dishes made in-house, including sauces, marinated meats, and bread. Sula announced at the beginning of the year it would be headed to Davie Street, however, at the time, the business did not disclose the planned address. Get the chicken tikka masala off menu. Staff is super-friendly. I'm stuffed every time I leave here. Amazing views of downtown Van as well. It's not perfect Indian food, but it'll do very nicely! All excellent.

In one of my first restaurant visits in over a month, the team at Sula made my partner and I feel comfortable with Plexiglas on all the tables and servers able to enunciate menu descriptions over their masks while distant. The seafood-forward program Vittal and Shetty grew up in Mangalore, an Indian port city is loaded with hits, including Yetti Sukka prawns cooked with chillies, tomato, lemon, tamarind and coconut , Marvai Gasi mussels in a delicious coconut mustard curry and Salmon Puli Munchi—an absolutely perfectly cooked salmon slathered with tamarind and chillies. My vegetarian partner raved about the Mumbai Vada deep-fried potato dumplings and the Papdi Chaat wafers topped with potatoes, chickpeas, yogurt, chaat masala and chutney. And, of course, both the spicy and regular naan on offer. The Adraki Lamb Chops were a standout as well—perfectly spiced in a cumin and coriander marinade. The highlight though? We both agreed: the Tandoori Portobello Mushroom.
