Instead of being emotional, revelatory, or action-packed, the mid-season finale feels like a filler episode.
Fear can be a very dangerous thing, and, unfortunately, for the Super Friends, it is phantoms' main weapon in the Phantom Zone. With Kara's blood in hand, the team ventured to the prison world where Supergirl was trapped on Supergirl Season 6 Episode 7. They were all determined to save their hero, but not everything went to plan as most things go on this show. Thanks to its unique story structure, it was a strong installment into a so-far disappointing Supergirl Season 6. Some of the Fear Visions dragged a bit, but, for the most part, the episode showcased almost all of the characters in thoughtful ways. What we thought was going to be a plot-driven episode focused on saving Kara from the Phantom Zone was actually a character-driven one. Instead of portraying fight scenes with the phantoms that we have seen multiple times this season, the series utilized the phantoms' Fear Visions as their weapon of choice.

Once he does, he wreaks havoc on the team in a series of largely boring and no-stakes scenes that lack any kind of emotional impact despite the best effort of Supergirl 's cast.

Of colleagues who are also family, and who will do anything for each other as they strive towards a utopian vision of a hope-filled future. After the Super Friends launch The Tower into space and share a few lovely heart-to-hearts, the bulk of the episode is devoted to a series of Fear Visions. Alex envisions a scenario where her over-confidence forces her to sacrifice herself to save her friends. Lena imagines being haunted by a terrifying water demon. Kelly dreams up a scenario where her human vulnerabilities leave her powerless to save her superpowered allies. For a show that usually does a lot of hand-holding when it comes to plot, I like that this episode throws its audience into the deep end. This episode is genuinely unnerving in a way these CW superhero shows seldom are. And perhaps there should have been. And this episode weirdly skips over the fact that the last time we saw Zor-El, he seemingly died in an explosion.
