We are going to be staying in Playa Blanca in April. Could someone let me know if there is a large supermarket there and where it is situated. Thank you. Day 5 on this trip report shows you where the big supermarket is. Also Ropers down at Papagayo end would be one of the two bigger one's there. As we have a hire car would it be more economical to shop 'out of town'? If so where? The Spar at Macher is on the way from the airport, just off the main road. It is larger than the Playa Blanca supermarkets and better value. We stop off there on the way to Playa Blanca and stock up.

It calls for some organisation, so we try to write a menu plan each week, and from that we can produce a shopping list. It takes time, but food is an important part of life here! Ropers is on the industrial estate at Playa Honda, opposite Deiland. They have a fabulous fresh meat counter there, manned by competent butchers who will cut and trim your meat as required. Their fruit and veg is excellent, and they have a good selection of fresh herbs as well. There is also an interesting cold counter, with some unusual cheeses and cold meats.

I am visiting Lanzarote in December and staying, self-catering, in Playa Blanca. Which is the best and biggest supermarket on the island within reasonable distance I have a car. Does Lanzarote have anything close to the wonderful hypermarkets often seen in France. Trev is quite right, we wish we did have hypermarkets. The best on offer for you in Playa Blanca is Hyperdino, a supermarket in the centre, it has underground parking, and you will be able to buy most things you need at this place. I am a Playa Blanca resident, if you tell me where you are staying I'll give you directions to Hyperdino. Netto supermakets are known to be the most expensive, we also have Spar. Main ones in Playa Blanca are the two Superdinos one opposite the bus Garage with it's underground car park and the other in a side road opposite the Mirador Hotel with parking spaces. There are the 2 Superdino referred to above the one near the bus garage is the better of the two, but the other has better parking. If you have a car you could take your pick from Superdino or Mercadona at Playa Honda near the airport. The one with the underground car park…. My favourite of all time. I just like it for some reason, not the shopping though, just the car park. Sorry to jump on someone else's post but just wanted to know how easy it would be to get a taxi with a trolley load of shopping from the Superdino in town. Can you take the trolley outside and wait for taxi like in UK? Any help much appreciated.

Thank you. There's Superdino Papagayo, in San Marcial should be the closest to you, which we use, easy to get parked and has a good selection and butcher counter.
